Hospital Nacional de Itauguá opens new patient shelter
The Hospital Nacional de Itauguá has inaugurated a new shelter facility designed to accommodate patients and their families during long-term medical treatments. Financed by ITAIPU Binacional in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, the 1,600-square-meter building spans two floors and includes 35 climate-controlled rooms with a capacity for over 70 people.
The facility features a kitchen-dining area, laundry services, a living room, green spaces, and recreational areas for children. It is specifically designed to support patients requiring extended care, such as those undergoing regular dialysis sessions in the Nephrology department. The infrastructure includes accessibility features like ramps and adapted restrooms, as well as fire detection and combat systems.
First Lady Leticia Ocampos highlighted the opening on social media, stating that the project is part of a broader commitment to transform the hospital. The relocation of patients to this new building allows for the demolition of the old shelter, clearing the way for the next phase of development: the construction of a new Gran Hospital Nacional.
