Hospital parking fees in Japan may still apply if consultations are cancelled
There is no nationwide rule in Japan that guarantees free parking if a patient is unable to receive a medical consultation after waiting, even if the cancellation is due to the hospital's circumstances. Parking fees are managed separately from medical fees and vary significantly by institution.
Major hospitals have different structures for outpatient parking. For example, the National Cancer Center Hospital provides 30 minutes of free parking, while Kyushu University Hospital and Hiroshima University Hospital offer specific discount systems for outpatients that require presenting documentation, such as appointment slips or consultation vouchers, at designated windows to receive the reduced rate.
Patients who are unable to be seen after completing registration are advised to consult with hospital reception or parking staff before settling their fees. It is important to keep proof of the visit, such as a medical card or appointment slip, to request whether outpatient discount rates apply in cases where the consultation could not proceed.
