Hospital Ramos Mejía launches bone marrow transplant unit

The Hospital Ramos Mejía in Buenos Aires has been authorized by INCUCAI to operate a new Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit for adult patients. This marks the first time a public health facility in the city's network has offered this high-complexity service for adults, aiming to centralize the treatment of oncohematological pathologies.

To prepare for the service, an interdisciplinary team of hematologists and nurses underwent six months of specialized training at the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, participating in over 20 allogeneic transplants and various autologous procedures. City Health Minister Fernán Quirós stated that the unit will expand the system's capacity to respond to patients across the city.

In a related development regarding medical coverage, the Provincial Institute of Health Insurance (IPROSS) has facilitated 15 bone marrow transplants for its affiliates. The coverage provided by IPROSS includes not only the patients but also the donors, covering compatibility studies, medication, post-transplant support, and air travel to high-complexity medical centers.
