Regional hospitals implement specialized medical programs to reduce waiting lists

Various medical institutions across Chile, Venezuela, and Peru are implementing specialized programs to address healthcare gaps, reduce waiting lists, and improve specialized care.

In Chile, hospitals are focusing on diverse needs: the Hospital Regional de Copiapó and the Hospital Regional de Arica are conducting cardiology operations to reduce specialist waiting lists. The Hospital Regional de Arica has also introduced inclusive protocols for autistic patients, including sensory tools and identification credentials. In Talca, the Hospital Regional is expanding pediatric oncology isolation rooms to improve local treatment capacity, while the Hospital de Curicó is addressing the critical rise in cancer mortality and healthcare inequalities. Additionally, the Hospital de Cochrane is providing free maxillofacial surgeries to remote southern regions, and Valparaíso is conducting cardiovascular prevention campaigns.

In Venezuela, the Hospital I Dr. José Gregorio Hernández in Mérida conducted a pediatric surgical jornada, performing over 30 procedures to assist children in the Sucre municipality. In Peru, a specialized cardiovascular brigade is operating at the Hospital Regional Miguel Ángel Mariscal Llerena in Ayacucho, performing surgeries for children with congenital heart disease as part of a decentralization strategy to provide specialized care outside of Lima.
