Hospital Regional de Presidente Prudente faces overcrowding allegations

The Hospital Regional (HR) in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, is facing new allegations of overcrowding. Recent reports claim patients and stretchers are being kept in corridors, despite the State Health Secretariat stating that the issue has been “overcome” and no longer exists in the municipality.

The Public Prosecutor's Office continues to monitor the situation. While the Secretariat maintains the problem is resolved, the Prosecutor's Office noted that stretchers found in corridors were reportedly being used for conducting examinations.

Technical Director Renato Ferrari stated that the facility performs five to six transfers daily to other health units. He noted that spontaneous demand for mild symptoms can cause sporadic surges in the early morning and late afternoon. Ferrari clarified that recorded wait times relate to patient flow rather than patients waiting for hospitalization in corridors, and the hospital provided footage of empty hallways to counter media reports.
