Hospital Regional de Taguatinga oncology pharmacy delivers 9,500 medications

The Oncology Pharmacy at the Hospital Regional de Taguatinga (HRT) has distributed 9,500 medications during its first two years of operation, which concluded in October. The unit serves cancer patients from the Distrito Federal and surrounding areas.

A team of ten specialized pharmacists provides individualized support to adjust therapies to each patient's routine and health conditions. During consultations, the team evaluates oncology drugs alongside treatments for other conditions, such as diabetes and high cholesterol, to prevent adverse drug interactions and ensure therapeutic efficacy.

Medical staff, including oncology service head José Lucas Pereira Júnior, emphasized that precise medication administration is vital for treating aggressive diseases and reducing the risk of cancer recurrence. The pharmacy also focuses on health education, advising patients against using alternative cures like certain teas or medicinal plants that might interfere with prescribed treatments.
