State and Curitiba sign R$100 million deal for new Hospital Bairro Novo
On 17 June 2026 the Government of Paraná and the municipality of Curitiba signed a financing agreement for the Hospital Bairro Novo in the Sítio Cercado district. The deal allocates about R$ 98 million from the state health secretariat and roughly R$ 2 million from the city, with an additional R$ 35 million earmarked for hospital equipment.
The new facility will cover approximately 13,600 square metres and provide 235 inpatient beds – 30 intensive‑care beds and four operating rooms – along with emergency, imaging, and outpatient services. Designed to serve the SUS system, the hospital is expected to handle around 10,700 admissions, 6,000 surgeries, and 27,000 specialist consultations each year, easing pressure on local UPAs and existing hospitals.
Mayor Eduardo Pimentel highlighted the project as a strategic investment to strengthen public health care in Curitiba and the metropolitan region, while State Health Secretary César Neves emphasized its role in expanding modern, low‑cost medical infrastructure for the population.
