Hospital SAMIC assumes management of Los Glaciares access fees
The SAMIC Hospital of El Calafate has assumed responsibility for managing access fee collections and providing medical services within the Perito Moreno Glacier sector of Los Glaciares National Park. This follows an agreement with the National Parks Administration after the decision not to renew the contract with the provincial state-owned company, Santa Cruz Puede.
Under the new inter-administrative agreement, the hospital will manage access control and provide permanent healthcare coverage, including emergency services with an ambulance, medical staff, and transport between parking areas. The existing workforce will remain in their roles, transitioning from provincial oversight to the hospital’s administration.
The financial arrangement dictates that 80% of the collected revenue will go to the National Parks Administration, while 20% will be allocated to the SAMIC hospital. These funds are intended to strengthen the hospital’s infrastructure, equipment, and professional training. This new scheme does not currently include access fee collection in El Chaltén.
