Hospital San Jorge in Huesca Launches Hugo™ RAS Robotic Surgery System

The Hospital San Jorge in Huesca has begun using the Hugo™ RAS robotic surgery platform, marking a new phase for minimally invasive procedures in the region. The system, which is operated from a surgeon‑controlled console, provides three‑dimensional visualization and precise instrument control, but it does not function autonomously.

Nurses Sonia Laviña and Gema Barba explain that the robot’s movements are fully directed by the surgeon and that their team underwent months of specialized training to integrate the technology safely. Their role includes preparing the operating room, coordinating instruments, and monitoring the patient before, during and after each robotic case, ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

The introduction of Hugo™ RAS positions Hospital San Jorge alongside other Spanish centers adopting advanced robotic platforms, aiming to improve surgical precision, reduce patient recovery times and expand the range of procedures that can be performed with minimally invasive techniques.
