HITO Querétaro launches advanced radiotherapy for pediatric cancer

The Hospital Infantil Teletón de Oncología (HITO) in Querétaro, Mexico, has inaugurated a new adaptive radiotherapy area featuring the Elekta Unity. This technology, which combines high-energy radiation with magnetic resonance imaging, allows specialists to visualize tumors and surrounding tissues in real time. This enables daily adjustments to treatments based on changes in a patient's anatomy, aiming to protect healthy organs and reduce side effects. The project involved a $12.5 million investment with support from the Diez Morodo Foundation and the Swedish company Elekta. Experts note that this technology could reduce the number of required radiation sessions by approximately 40 percent.

In Argentina, the Hospital San Roque has implemented a high-frequency transducer for advanced dermatological ultrasound. This equipment, which is the first of its kind in the Argentine public health system, facilitates the non-invasive diagnosis and monitoring of complex skin conditions such as hidradenitis suppurativa, psoriasis, and skin tumors. The acquisition represents a significant shift, as such high-resolution studies were previously primarily available in the private sector.

Other regional medical updates include the incorporation of new X-ray equipment at Hospital San José and the addition of a dialysis chair and digital hospital tools in Cafayate, Argentina, to strengthen local healthcare services. Additionally, Affidea Clínica Tesla in Spain has integrated a new AI-equipped CT scanner to improve diagnostic precision and reduce radiation doses.
