Hospital Santa Casa investigates deaths of pregnant woman and infant
Hospital Santa Casa de Patrocínio has launched an internal investigation following the deaths of 26-year-old Nayara Oliveira Silva and her baby, Ayla, on August 12. The hospital stated it has provided all medical records and security footage to the Civil Police of Minas Gerais and will await forensic results before making further statements.
The tragedy began when Silva, eight months pregnant, sought treatment for intense headaches, fever, and body aches. Family members claim she was initially discharged despite her symptoms. Upon returning to the hospital on August 11, the family alleges they made repeated requests for an emergency cesarean section due to the patient's suffering. On August 12, it was determined that the baby had died in the womb, and Silva subsequently passed away due to complications. The incident has sparked significant local indignation and allegations of medical negligence.
