Hospital Santa Isabel reaches 2,000 liver transplants
Hospital Santa Isabel in Blumenau has reached a milestone of 2,000 liver transplants since its service began. This achievement coincides with the institution's 117th anniversary. In 2025, the hospital performed 102 liver transplants, ranking it as the third highest in Brazil for this procedure and distinguishing itself as the only non-capital city hospital to reach such a position.
The hospital has also expanded its technological and educational footprint. Since 2019, it has integrated robotic surgery into its operations, completing 1,000 robotic procedures by 2024. Furthermore, the institution has become a hub for medical training, hosting international immersion courses in robotics. In August, the Ministry of Health granted the facility Level 1 Teaching Hospital Certification, recognizing its 27-year history of medical education and its current residency programs across 11 specialties.
