Hospital Universitario de Dénia broadcasts live spine surgeries

The Hospital Universitario de Dénia broadcasted two live, minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgeries during a pre-congress course for the III edition of the Spanish Society of Percutaneous and Endoscopic Spine Surgery (SECPEC) congress. The event, held in València, allowed over one hundred national and international specialists to observe the procedures in real time.

The first procedure involved endoscopic decompression for lumbar canal stenosis, using small incisions to remove tissue causing nerve compression while minimizing damage to muscles and soft tissues. The second procedure addressed vertebral instability through an endoscopic-assisted lumbar fusion, which utilized an intersomatic cage and fixation systems to stabilize the vertebrae.

Endoscopic spine surgery is currently used to treat approximately 80 percent of common vertebral pathologies, including disc herniations and spinal instability, often resulting in shorter hospital stays.
