Hospital Universitario de León implements traffic cuts for ICU expansion

Traffic restrictions are in effect around the south wing of the Hospital Universitario de León on September 2 and 3 to facilitate technical sanitation works. These works are a necessary step for the structural expansion of critical care units.

The project involves the construction of a new Resuscitation Unit (REA), which will increase capacity from 12 to 16 beds. This relocation will allow the Intensive Care Unit (UCI) to expand from 16 to 28 beds. The technical plan includes enclosing the ground floor of the south wing building to relocate services currently on the first floor, making room for the new REA.

Access to the San Antonio Abad parking building is available via the east entrance from Altos de Nava street. The west entrance remains open for authorized vehicles, public transport, and emergency ambulances, which continue to operate without disruption. Staff surface parking remains unaffected. The works, awarded to Ferrovial Construcción S.A. by the Gerencia Regional de Salud for approximately 5.96 million euros, are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2028.
