Hospital Universitario de Toledo consolidates liver transplant program

The Hospital Universitario de Toledo, under the Castilla-La Mancha Health Service (SESCAM), has successfully performed 28 liver transplants since the program's launch in May 2025. The program has established itself as a high-complexity reference center due to its clinical results and patient profiles.

Notably, nine of these transplants were conducted on patients in life-threatening situations involving acute liver failure syndrome. The program has also demonstrated technical maturity by performing two transplants using ECMO support due to vena cava involvement, expanding surgical possibilities for complex hepatic resections. This specialized care allows regional patients to receive advanced treatment closer to their families through a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, hepatologists, and various medical specialists.
