Hospital Universitario Erasmo Meoz faces extreme overcrowding

The Hospital Universitario Erasmo Meoz (HUEM) is facing a severe operational crisis characterized by extreme overcrowding. According to hospital manager Hernando José Mora, adult emergency service occupancy has exceeded 409 percent, while pediatric emergencies are at 111 percent, hospitalization is at 104 percent, and the delivery room is at 230 percent.

This surge in demand has elevated the institution's status to a hospital emergency. The crisis is driven by a high volume of patients from Nueva EPS and Coosalud who seek care at the hospital due to a lack of available services within their own provider networks. The hospital management has warned that the current situation may lead to the suspension of services for patients from three departments and Venezuela if the financial debts owed by the EPS entities and the overwhelming demand are not addressed.
