Hospital Universitario San Agustín launches oncology exercise program
The Hospital Universitario San Agustín in Linares has launched ‘Linares se mueve frente al cáncer’, a pioneering supervised therapeutic exercise program for oncology patients. The initiative aims to aid functional recovery and improve quality of life through structured, adapted physical activity.
The program is designed for adults experiencing functional deterioration due to cancer or its treatments, such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy. It specifically targets patients in the early stages of survival, typically between three and 24 months after completing active treatment. It may also include clinically stable patients undergoing immunotherapy or targeted therapies.
Starting in late October and running through December, the pilot project will involve 15 participants. Sessions will consist of 45-minute weekly meetings supervised by physiotherapy professionals at the Parque Municipal de Deportes San José. Before participating, patients will undergo a complete functional physiotherapeutic assessment to tailor the intervention to their specific cardiovascular and functional needs.
