Hospital Universitario San Jorge suspends services for Nueva EPS affiliates

Hospital Universitario San Jorge in Pereira has suspended all medical services for Nueva EPS affiliates due to significant payment defaults and a lack of new contractual agreements. The hospital reports that Nueva EPS, which is currently under government intervention, has become its primary debtor with an accumulated debt exceeding 57,060 million pesos.

Financial data from September indicates that of the 7,498 million pesos in billed services, the EPS only paid approximately 1,926 million pesos, representing just 25.6% of the total. This falls significantly short of the 90% payment rate required under current economic and social emergency measures. For October, the hospital reports that resources posted by the EPS represent less than 25% of the billed amount.

The suspension affects an estimated 110,000 affiliates in the Pereira area and surrounding municipalities. Hospital manager Javier Alejandro Gaviria Murillo has called upon the Superintendency of Health and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to intervene and normalize the situation.
