Hospital Universitário de Canoas begins major IT infrastructure upgrade

Hospital Universitário de Canoas (HU) has launched a major revitalization of its Information Technology (IT) infrastructure, marking the first large-scale upgrade of this kind in nearly 20 years. Managed by the Associação Saúde em Movimento (ASM), the modernization aims to replace obsolete equipment and renew the systems essential for daily hospital operations.

A technical diagnosis revealed significant deficiencies, including network equipment that was no longer supported by manufacturers, faulty ports, and outdated or improperly installed cabling. The upgrade is considered critical as modern hospital functions—such as electronic medical records, imaging exams, pharmacy systems, and administrative processes—rely heavily on reliable technological connectivity. The hospital currently performs approximately 15,000 monthly services, including consultations, surgeries, and hospitalizations.
