Hospital Vargas in Caracas reaches 74% completion of comprehensive rehabilitation

The comprehensive rehabilitation of Hospital Vargas in Caracas has reached 74% of its planned work, covering roughly 33,000 sqm. The effort, carried out under the Dr. José Gregorio Hernández Plan, involves the ministries of Public Works, Water and Sanitation, and Transport, together with the state electricity company Corpoelec and the Caracas municipal government.

Completed tasks include the intensive‑care unit, blood bank, chapel, kitchen and four clinical areas, as well as restoration of the main façade, interior courtyards and installation of eco‑friendly interior and exterior lighting. Ongoing work focuses on waterproofing an 11,000 sqm annex, refurbishing auditoriums, bathrooms and drainage, and upgrading pediatric, trauma and older‑building wards. Five new elevators are being installed, floors are being replated, and the facility is being painted throughout.

Hospital Vargas has 320 beds and serves more than 600 patients daily, with around 5,000 people—including medical staff, administrative workers and students—passing through the site each day. Public Works Minister Juan José Ramírez shared a video of the progress on Instagram.
