Hospital workers report sanitation and hygiene concerns in La Plata and Badajoz

Healthcare workers in different regions are raising alarms regarding hygiene and sanitation standards in public hospitals.

In La Plata, staff at Hospital San Martín have reported significant waste accumulation in both internal corridors and external areas. Workers claim the buildup of refuse has caused strong odors and led to the presence of rats. Additionally, safety concerns were raised regarding discarded boards with nails left on the floor, posing risks to patients and staff. Employees stated that administrative responses to these sanitary risks have been insufficient.

In Badajoz, employees at public hospitals, including Hospital Perpetuo Socorro and the Hospital Universitario de Badajoz, have reported persistent cleaning deficiencies. Staff attribute the issue to personnel shortages, which they claim worsened during the summer months. Workers noted that inadequate staffing leads to neglected areas such as basements and emergency departments, as well as shortages of basic supplies like toilet paper. While the service provider, Tersum, denies any deficiencies, hospital management (SES) maintains they are monitoring contract compliance through periodic meetings.
