Hospital Zonal Ramón Carrillo performs complex surgery on premature infant
The Hospital Zonal Ramón Carrillo in Bariloche successfully performed a high-complexity cardiovascular surgery on a premature newborn weighing 1.331 kilograms. The procedure involved closing a patent ductus arteriosus, a condition that can cause heart and organ failure if left untreated.
To avoid the risks associated with transporting the 32-day-old infant to a different facility, medical teams opted to bring specialized surgeons to Bariloche. This strategy utilized the hospital's existing infrastructure to allow local and external surgical teams to work together on the intervention.
