Hospitality NZ releases election manifesto with six key priorities

Hospitality NZ has released an election manifesto ahead of the 2026 election, outlining six key priorities to support the food, beverage, and accommodation sectors. CEO Kristy Phillips stated that the industry contributes billions to the New Zealand economy and supports tens of thousands of jobs.

The manifesto's priorities include:

• Immigration: Creating residency pathways that recognize work experience alongside formal qualifications. • Skills and training: Developing clearer industry pathways. • Keg tax: Reducing excise on kegged beer to align with Australian rates. • Secondary tax: Introducing cumulative PAYE for workers employed by multiple employers. • Short-term rental accommodation: Establishing a national register. • Industry funding: Implementing a consistent national visitor levy.

Phillips emphasized that these practical policy changes are intended to help small business owners remain financially sustainable and attract necessary talent.
