Hospitality sector shifts toward sustainable design and business tourism
The hospitality sector is increasingly integrating sustainability into its core design and operational models. Effective sustainable hospitality requires a holistic approach that begins during the architectural planning phase, focusing on building envelopes, natural light, thermal control, and efficient spatial layouts to reduce energy and water consumption.
In the business tourism sector, the Spanish chain Paradores is implementing its 2025-2028 Sustainability Plan to transform meetings, congresses, and conventions. The initiative focuses on reducing environmental impact through the digitalization of event materials to limit paper use and promoting low-impact mobility, such as rail and electric transport.
Furthermore, the strategy emphasizes local connection by prioritizing seasonal, regional gastronomy and vegetarian or vegan options in event catering, aiming to create value for the territories where these events are hosted.
