Hosur airport project faces opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly
The proposed Hosur airport project has become a point of contention in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. AIADMK MLA P Balakrishna Reddy urged the government to abandon the project, citing the impact on agricultural land and the protests from local farmers. Reddy suggested the government follow the precedent set by the Parandur airport project, which was recently scrapped to protect farmers' livelihoods.
In response, Revenue Minister KA Sengottaiyan rejected the demand, stating that the acquisition of agricultural land is an inevitable requirement for major development projects. He characterized the suggestion to avoid land acquisition as impractical.
The debate follows the decision by Chief Minister Joseph Vijay to cancel the Parandur airport project. While the government maintains the cancellation was necessary to protect agricultural interests, DMK leaders have criticized the move, arguing that halting such infrastructure could negatively impact the state's economic development.
