Hot 97 hosts and former producer allege management failures and layoffs

On-air personalities The Kid Mero and Kazeem have publicly criticized the leadership and ownership of radio station Hot 97. During a “Mind of Mero” segment, Mero argued that even a high-performing team cannot succeed if executive management is ineffective, noting the disparity between staff pay and executive compensation.

Kazeem described the station as the “worst place I’ve ever worked in my life,” attributing subpar broadcast quality to management inefficiency despite the station's ratings. He expressed solidarity with former talent including Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez.

Adding to the scrutiny, former producer Scottie Beam alleged that the station has furloughed its DJs and has failed to pay rent on its building. These claims follow reports from journalist Bryson “Boom” Paul confirming that layoffs have occurred at the station.
