Hot 97 hosts criticize station leadership and dispute ratings
Hot 97 morning show personalities Kazeem “Kaz” Famuyide and The Kid Mero have publicly criticized the management of the New York hip-hop radio station. During an October 14 broadcast of “Mornings with Mero,” Famuyide described the station as the “worst place I’ve ever worked at in my life,” citing poor leadership, inadequate resources, and a frustrating corporate structure.
Mero questioned the compensation of senior executives compared to the support provided to on-air talent. During the broadcast, Famuyide also claimed that their program had been outperforming rival show “The Breakfast Club” and Power 105 despite having significantly fewer resources.
Charlamagne tha God, host of “The Breakfast Club,” responded to these claims by citing Nielsen ratings. He stated that his show remains number one in several key demographics, including the 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54 age groups, and disputed the assertion that Hot 97 had recently beaten them in the ratings.
