Hot baths may reduce blood pressure more effectively than moderate exercise

Research published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology suggests that a 30-minute hot bath may be more effective at reducing blood pressure than moderate-intensity exercise, such as cycling. The study involved overweight or obese adults aged 45 to 70 who engaged in either 30 minutes of cycling or 30 minutes in 40°C water. Results indicated that the hot bath led to a greater reduction in blood pressure by causing vasodilation, which increases the space available for blood flow.

Beyond cardiovascular benefits, various natural additives can enhance the therapeutic effects of bathing. Tea can provide antioxidant and antimicrobial properties to aid skin health and immunity, while lavender oil may assist with stress, insomnia, and pain relief. For skin conditions, colloidal oatmeal can soothe itching and inflammation, and coconut oil serves as a natural moisturizer for eczema. Ginger is also noted for its potential to combat toxins during baths.
