Hot Chip announces ninth album ‘A Long Way From Kansas’

British electronic group Hot Chip has announced their ninth studio album, ‘A Long Way From Kansas’, scheduled for release on January 8 via Domino. The 11-track project was recorded at the Relax and Enjoy studio in East London and features guest appearances by Beth Ditto and Eddie Chacon.

The band released a lead single titled ‘Random Violence’ alongside a music video directed by Jack Cole. The track serves as a tribute to the late Keith McIvor, also known as JD Twitch of the Scottish DJ duo Optimo, who passed away following a diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumor. According to band member Joe Goddard, the song’s lyrics were largely inspired by McIvor’s life, his passion for music, and his socialist beliefs.

Frontman Alexis Taylor noted that the album reflects the harsh and discordant nature of the modern world. The record is described as having a more distorted and punk-influenced sound, exploring themes of stability and belonging amidst global chaos.
