Mexico faces heavy rains across 23 states FAST-MOVING
A complex interaction of nine atmospheric phenomena will bring strong to intense rain to most of Mexico on Sunday, affecting 23 states. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) warned that the most severe precipitation is expected in Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Durango and Nayarit, while very strong rains are forecast for Sonora, Zacatecas, Jalisco, Colima, Guerrero and Chiapas. The storm system also threatens flooding, landslides, river crests, lightning, hail and strong wind gusts.
In Mexico City, authorities activated Plan Tlaloque 2.0 after the previous rains left more than 3.7 million m³ of water in the capital and 8.42 million m³ in the metropolitan area. The SMN also noted that Pacific wave heights could reach 1.5‑2.5 m. Civil protection urged residents to stay informed and avoid risky areas as the weather remains unstable throughout the weekend.
