Hotel Cascais Miragem announces collective dismissals for renovations

The management of Hotel Cascais Miragem Health & SPA has announced plans for a collective dismissal due to upcoming extensive renovations. The hotel, located in Cascais, will temporarily cease operations for at least 24 months to undergo remodeling following its acquisition by the Spanish group Ibervalles and ARD Investment & Development.

The union representing workers in the hospitality, tourism, and catering industries has denounced the move, stating it could affect 140 permanent employees and 35 fixed-term contractors. The union argues the decision is “profoundly unjust and socially unacceptable,” noting that because the hotel is not closing permanently but merely suspending activity for investment, there should be alternatives to maintain jobs.

The union has filed a complaint with the Authority for Working Conditions and requested intervention from the Ministry of Labour, claiming the company may not be meeting the legal requirements for collective dismissal under the Labor Code. The total investment in the property is expected to reach approximately 205 million euros, following the initial 125 million euro purchase.
