Hotel industry trends show rising rates and shifting booking patterns
The hospitality sector is experiencing varied shifts in pricing, booking patterns, and revenue growth. American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) predicts that hotel rates will rise globally in 2027, driven by inflation and resilient demand for corporate travel and meetings. Madrid is expected to see significant increases between 6.1% and 9.2%, outpacing other European capitals like London and Paris.
In Spain, early booking trends are accelerating. Data from Travelgate shows that hotel reservations made more than 90 days in advance have reached 22.4%, a four-percentage-point increase compared to the same period last year. Regions such as Catalonia, the Canary Islands, and Andalusia continue to lead in demand.
Regarding corporate performance, the Hosteltur ranking of large Spanish hotel chains (those managing over 1,000 rooms) indicates that while most companies continued to grow revenue in 2025, the pace of growth has slowed. Only 28 of the 88 participating chains reported double-digit revenue increases, compared to higher growth rates in previous years.
