Hotel Rittersturz site honored for democratic history
The Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament has honored the site of the former Hotel Rittersturz in Koblenz as a ‘Place of Rhineland-Palatinate Democracy History’.
Although the hotel was demolished over 50 years ago due to structural instability, the site holds significant historical importance. Between July 8 and 10, 1948, the hotel hosted a conference of state premiers that laid the foundation for the Federal Republic of Germany and its Basic Law.
During a ceremony at the Forum Confluentes, State Parliament President Matthias Lammert noted that the outcome of the Koblenz conference was pivotal to the development of the Federal Republic. The award is presented by the state parliament twice a year.
