Hotel Schweizerhof in Lenzerheide hit by cyberattack
The Hotel Schweizerhof in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, has fallen victim to a cyberattack targeting its reservation systems. The breach has prompted the hotel to issue security warnings to approximately 10,000 customers.
Fraudsters are using WhatsApp messages to solicit personal information and credit card numbers from guests. To entice victims, the attackers offer a fraudulent credit of 250 Swiss francs. Hotel owner Andreas Züllig stated that the attackers' goal appears to be the theft of personal and financial data rather than direct extortion.
While the exact extent of the data leak remains unclear due to the involvement of various third-party booking platforms, the hotel has increased its security measures. Züllig noted that the hotel had conducted vulnerability tests on its hardware and software earlier this spring. The attackers are believed to be operating from abroad, and there may be a connection to similar recent attacks on IT service providers in Austria.
