Hotel Sidi Saler faces conflicting demolition and rehabilitation plans

The future of the abandoned Hotel Sidi Saler in Valencia’s Albufera Natural Park remains a subject of intense debate between political demands for demolition and private interests seeking rehabilitation.

The political coalition Compromís has called on the central government to demolish the structure and restore the surrounding dunes. The party argues that the hotel’s activity license has expired, a decision supported by court rulings, and that the building has been abandoned for over a decade on public maritime-terrestrial land. Compromís is urging the Ministry for the Ecological Transition to terminate the current hotel concession and execute the demolition.

In contrast, a local developer has acquired the property with plans to rehabilitate the building into a five-star hotel. The developer aims to preserve the existing structure to avoid the waste generated by demolition and intends to integrate the hotel into the natural park environment. This project must comply with regulations from the Coast Demarcation and the Valencia City Council.
