A hotel housekeeper in Yulin, Shaanxi, has been criminally detained for stealing a guest's Huawei smartphone. The suspect, identified as Wang, reportedly took the device from a room while cleaning.
Following the theft, Wang used the Doubao AI assistant to ask questions such as whether police would seriously investigate a lost phone or if a phone could be found after a guest had checked out. These digital inquiries became critical evidence in the investigation.
Although Wang initially denied the theft during police questioning, she confessed after officers presented the chat logs from the AI assistant. The stolen phone has been recovered and returned to the owner. Police have also warned that repair shops attempting to unlock stolen devices may face legal consequences for concealing criminal proceeds.
