Hotelstars Union reports AI integration of official star ratings

At its 12th General Assembly in Vilnius, Lithuania, the Hotelstars Union (HSU) reported that large AI models and international booking platforms are increasingly recognizing and utilizing official hotel star classifications as reliable sources.

While HSU President Markus Luthe noted positive progress, he emphasized that the presentation of official stars remains inconsistent across different platforms, countries, and search queries. The organization is calling for greater transparency and uniformity from AI providers and booking portals to ensure that official, independently verified ratings are clearly distinguishable from self-assigned hotel ratings.

Major platforms like Expedia and TripAdvisor have already begun citing the HSU as a source for star ratings. The HSU highlights that official classifications provide a reliable quality standard based on uniform criteria and independent inspections, which is becoming increasingly vital as travelers shift from traditional booking sites to AI-driven search and recommendation systems.
