House Committee investigates funding of MyGender Dolls

The House Education and Workforce Committee has launched an investigation into the funding and potential use of ‘MyGender Dolls’ in public elementary schools. The dolls, developed by the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health, feature removable internal and external genitalia and are marketed for children as young as four years old.

Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) sent a formal inquiry to Dr. Kristen Mark, the institute's director, seeking clarification on whether federal funds supported the project. The investigation aims to determine if resources from programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 have been used to deploy these materials in school settings.

Walberg has requested several documents by September 14, 2026, including lists of federal funding sources, grant applications, and communications between university faculty and elementary school staff. The committee is also investigating whether minor students participated in the development of the project and is seeking transparency regarding the dolls' intended distribution and use.
