House Democrats consider response to centrist defections

House Democratic leadership is reviewing potential disciplinary actions against Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) after they voted with Republicans on a procedural rule. The leadership, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, described the move as a “significant breach of trust” that “necessitates a serious response.”

The vote involved a resolution condemning socialism and included support for the enactment of the SAVE America Act. The matter has been referred to the Democratic Committee on Caucus Rules for review.

Rep. Golden stated he intends to speak with Jeffries and prefers not to “litigate it in the press.” Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez, a co-chairwoman of the Blue Dogs, characterized her recent meeting with leadership as routine and suggested that representing her district’s working-class interests ultimately strengthens the caucus.
