House Democrats introduce CISA workforce assessment bill
House Democrats have introduced the CISA Force Structure Assessment Act, which would require the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to conduct a comprehensive review of its workforce. The legislation follows the departure of approximately 1,000 employees during the second Trump administration and subsequent budget cuts.
Lead sponsor Representative James Walkinshaw (D-VA), alongside Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and Delia Ramirez (D-IL), aims to determine if the agency possesses the necessary personnel, training, and certifications to address evolving threats. The assessment would specifically examine the impact of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and quantum computing on the threat landscape.
The proposed review would also cover federal IT system security, support for state and local governments, threat-hunting capabilities, and the agency’s role in managing risks across various industry sectors.
