House of the Dragon episode sparks fan debate over plot holes

The third episode of the third season of HBO's *House of the Dragon*, titled “The Triumph of Rhaenyra”, introduced a major plot twist in which the captured young prince is revealed to be an impostor and the real Daeron remains with the Hightower forces. Viewers noted several narrative gaps: the dragon Tessarion shows no reaction to the supposed prince’s capture, and Daemon Targaryen leaves the dragon in the hands of the Hightower without explanation. Critics also highlighted the series’ shift toward a psychological, political drama—described by some as a “queen at half” narrative—rather than the expected battlefield action. The episode generated a split response online, with some fans praising the deeper political storytelling and others decrying the perceived inconsistencies and lack of dramatic resolution.
