House of the Dragon Season 3 introduces Daeron Targaryen and highlights the series' top dragons

The premiere of Season 3 of HBO's House of the Dragon features a brief but notable appearance of Daeron Targaryen, the third son of Visery I and Alicent Hightower. Daeron is shown serving as a squire to Ormund Hightower and is identified by his dark hair and his bond with the dragon Tessarion, the blue dragon his brother Daemon once rode. Although his screen time is limited, Daeron occupies a key position in the Green faction’s claim to the Iron Throne, ranking third in the line of succession after his brothers Aegon II and Aemond. His role as a dragon rider could become strategically important as the civil war intensifies.

A separate feature ranks the five most powerful dragons still active in the series. The list includes Dreamfyre (bonded to Helaena Targaryen), Silverwing (formerly ridden by Queen Alysanne and now by Ulf), Caraxes (Daemon’s dragon), and others such as Meleys and Sunfyre, which have already been lost. The ranking emphasizes each dragon’s size, combat experience, and the skill of their riders, underscoring how dragon power continues to shape the conflict known as the Dance of the Dragons.
