House of the Dragon season 3 premieres June 22 on HBO Max and Sky

The third season of the Game of Thrones prequel **House of the Dragon** launches in late June 2026. In the United States the first episode airs on HBO Max on 21 June, while European viewers can watch it from 22 June on Sky Atlantic, the Sky streaming service Wow and, in Italy, on Sky and the NOW platform. The season consists of eight weekly episodes, concluding in early August (10 August in Germany, 9 August in the US).

Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel *Fire & Blood*, the series returns to Westeros about 200 years before the events of *Game of Thrones*. Showrunner Ryan Condal says the new chapter will be “darker and bleaker,” continuing the family‑tragedy tone while delivering more dragon battles. The opening title music, used for the past 15 years, is being re‑recorded with a heavier drum‑driven arrangement to match the season’s gloom.

The main cast retains Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra, Matt Smith as Daemon, and Olivia Cooke as Queen Alicent. New focus is placed on Tom Glynn‑Carney’s Aegon II, highlighted by Condal as a character to watch, and on Ewan Mitchell’s Prince Aemond. Supporting actors include Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Clinton Liberty and Abubakar Salim, who attended the German premiere in Berlin.
