House of the Dragon confirmed for final Season 4 as series' concluding act
HBO has confirmed that the prequel series House of the Dragon will end with a fourth season, which showrunner Ryan Condal describes as the "final act" of the story. The network set a 2028 release window for the season, and Condal is already writing scripts while post‑production on Season 3 continues. Filming for Season 4 is expected to begin in spring 2027.
Season 3 has intensified the civil war between the Black and Green factions, highlighted by Ormund Hightower’s covert scheme to sway dragonriders Hugh Hammer and Ulf the White, and by Helaena Targaryen’s recurring dragon Dreamfyre visions. The episode‑8 trailer hints that these betrayals could shape the upcoming First Battle of Tumbleton.
The series remains a streaming powerhouse, topping weekly viewership charts for four consecutive weeks in August and maintaining strong audience engagement as the final episodes air.
