House of Yang mystery series to premiere on ARD

The German broadcaster ARD is launching a new six-part mystery miniseries titled ‘House of Yang’ on October 9, 2026. Set in a remote house in the Black Forest, the series explores themes of racism, horror, and intergenerational trauma through the history of a German-Chinese family.

The plot follows Jessie, played by Elisa Hofmann, who returns to her family home with her teenage daughter Mila to sell the property. The narrative spans three timelines: the post-war era involving the care of a young Chinese woman named Daiyu; the late 1990s when Jessie’s sister Isabel disappeared; and the present day as Jessie attempts to uncover family secrets.

Directed by Mia Spengler and written by Stefanie Ren, the series was selected through the SWR ‘Tief im Südwesten’ idea competition. It will be available on the ARD Mediathek and will receive linear broadcast slots on Das Erste starting late Friday night.
