Household cleaning: Effective methods for bathrooms and floors

Effective household cleaning relies on systematic procedures and proper tool usage. For bathrooms, an efficient workflow involves ventilating the room, removing loose items, and dusting dry surfaces before proceeding with wet cleaning from top to bottom. To prevent cross-contamination, a color-coded microfiber cloth system is recommended, such as using red for toilets and yellow for sinks and showers. Cleaning supplies should include mild acidic cleaners for limescale, specialized toilet cleaners, and various brushes or sponges for corners.

Regarding floor maintenance, using hot water can be counterproductive. While hot water may dissolve grease, it can cause cleaning agents containing alcohol, vinegar, or lemon to evaporate too quickly, potentially leaving streaks. High temperatures may also damage surfactants in modern cleaners or harm certain surfaces like wood floors. Additionally, inhaling cleaning vapors produced by hot water can pose health risks. Professionals often recommend using cold water to maintain the integrity of the cleaning products and ensure a better finish.
