Household cleaning methods for glass and bathroom surfaces

Various household items can be repurposed to clean stubborn residue from glass and bathroom surfaces. For shower doors, a mixture of baking soda and plain white toothpaste can create an abrasive paste to remove fingerprints, grease, and certain deposits. However, users should avoid using this on coated, tinted, or scratched glass to prevent damage.

To prevent mould growth on bathroom grout and silicone sealant, experts recommend addressing the combination of warmth, moisture, and soap residue. Daily habits such as using a squeegee to remove water from screens and walls, rinsing off washing products, and wiping grout lines with a microfiber cloth can significantly reduce mould buildup. Using cement grey grout and mould-resistant silicone may also help maintain a cleaner appearance longer than white grout.

For baked-on grease on the interior of oven doors, a paste consisting of half a cup of baking soda, water, and a few drops of dish soap can be effective. Applying the mixture and letting it sit for 15 minutes allows the baking soda to provide mild abrasion while the soap breaks down grease. It is advised to use a non-abrasive sponge and to consult manufacturer instructions to avoid damaging special coatings.
