Household cleaning techniques for drains and windows

Practical methods for maintaining household surfaces include using ice to clear clogged drains and vinegar for streak-free window cleaning.

To clear grease from sink sifons without disassembly, a combination of ice cubes, lemon, and liquid detergent can be used. The ice provides mechanical abrasion to scrape buildup from the pipe walls, while the citric acid from the lemon and surfactants in the detergent emulsify grease and neutralize odors.

For windows, a solution of equal parts water and vinegar can dissolve dust and light grease. To prevent streaks, the solution should be applied in small areas, preferably in mild temperatures to avoid rapid drying. Using microfiber cloths and applying the liquid in consistent horizontal or 'S' shaped motions helps achieve a clear finish.
