Household cleaning tips for floors and bathroom surfaces

Common household cleaning mistakes can lead to the redistribution of dirt rather than its removal. To clean floors effectively, surfaces should be vacuumed or swept before mopping to prevent spreading dust, hair, and debris. Using the same dirty water for an entire cleaning session is also a mistake; water should be changed as soon as it becomes cloudy.

Maintaining clean equipment is equally vital, as a dirty mop can reintroduce grease and dust to the floor. Additionally, different materials such as tiles, laminate, parquet, and natural stone require specific cleaning agents and methods to avoid damage.

For bathroom surfaces, removing makeup stains requires a tailored approach based on the material. Natural stones like granite and marble are porous and require pH-neutral cleaners or mild detergents to prevent deep staining. For stubborn marks on stone, a paste of baking soda and water applied under plastic wrap for 24 hours may be effective.

Quartz surfaces are less porous and can be cleaned with water and dish soap, while hydrogen peroxide can be used on white quartz for persistent marks. Glazed porcelain is generally easier to clean, though older or scratched surfaces may require baking soda or specialized cleaners to address stains in the grout.
