Household financial management causes friction for 30% of families
Financial management within households is a significant source of tension, with a study by Focus Market for Naranja X revealing that over 30% of families in Argentina experience friction regarding shared expenses. The research, which surveyed 3,850 cases, indicates that conflicts arise not only from low income but also from organizational failures, such as lack of transparency and poor coordination of payments.
Approximately 34% of respondents prefer to avoid claiming money owed to them to prevent arguments, and 40% of conflicts are linked to administrative errors or the mixing of personal and family accounts. Furthermore, many families spend significant time weekly coordinating transfers and reviewing obligations.
To mitigate these issues, experts suggest moving away from a strict 50/50 split, which can create unequal financial burdens. José Manuel Corrales Aznar, a professor at Universidad Europea de Madrid, argues that true equity is achieved by contributing in proportion to one's income. This approach ensures that the relative effort required from each partner remains balanced regardless of their individual salary levels.
